ShiatsuThe story of Shiatsu began in the heart of a 7 year old boy. His mother was riddled with pain, and all he wanted to do was to heal her. And you know what? He did. Years later, after dedicated research, trial and error, Tokujiro Namikoshi's 'Shiatsu Therapy' was defined by the Health Ministry of Japan, and has been embraced around the world ever since.
Unlike aromatherapy massage where the therapist needs to work oils into bare skin, there are no oils in Shiatsu massage. Clients remain fully-clothed because Shiatsu is about finger pressure. In fact, Shiatsu actually means finger pressure. And by applying pressure with the fingers and the palms over specific points, Shiatsu balances energy, corrects irregularities, helps to improve (and maintain) a healthy state, and even contributes to the relief of certain illness. |
The benefits of Shiatsu are many. It helps us to recuperate and correct movement of joints, regulate good abdominal breath, balance neurological function, and even correct body imbalance caused by repeated daily behaviour. Most notably, Shiatsu is regarded as an effective preventative method that helps to keep the body in balance.
